Boat DockingThe contest has closed, without a winner. All of the following is therefore out of date, but will remain posted for a while on the chance that it will still bear fruit. If by chance you still think you have a good photograph which might be suitable, then by all means let me know, and we'll discuss it.
I want something truly excellent, something with most of these characteristics:
The winner of this contest will receive:
If other secondary photos are used on or in the book, the same prize will apply except that the cash amount will be twenty dollars ($20) each, and two copies of Boat Docking.
The staff of Harvey Island Enterprises will be the final judge of this contest, with no appeal.
CopyrightHarvey Island Enterprises and/or Charles T. Low will assume ownership of the winning photographs for all commercial purposes. The intent is simply that if an image becomes recognized or "branded" in the boating public's consciousness, we wouldn't want it used for other similar purposes. Beyond that, you may continue to hold and use your photograph as you see fit. We're pretty flexible here - if in doubt, in the future, just ask!
During and after the contest, we may post some of the contending images on the Internet, with, if the contestant wishes, identifying information.
If you don't want to relinquish copyright (as described) or to have your images posted, then please do not enter the contest!
There are laws about what photographs you may publish and what you may not! We will assume that you have the legal right to use any submitted images for commercial purposes, so it's your responsibilty to ensure that you do. If you're in doubt about things like "model releases" or "property releases," just ask.
This contest is starting in early 2004, and will conclude when a suitable photograph is found, with a final deadline of the end of the year 2004. It's possible, although unlikely, that it may be cancelled, and no prized awarded, or that the contest may be extended if necessary.
You may certainly mail prints or slides in to us, but we can't guarantee that we'll be able to return them. We will try if you wish. We prefer digital; why not send in a small JPG for starters. Something like 200-300 pixels on a side at 75 dpi would be fine. We can negotiate getting larger, higher-resolution sizes and formats later if that seems advisable.
I have other hobbies than boating. Click the link, above, to read my essay, or click the photo to see some of my work. (Would that I had the time and ability to make this contest's photo myself!)
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. Enjoy the contest!
